As funny as this posting is- I am still laughing- but did you ever wonder why MORE of this doesn't happen? I remember going door to door with my friend- we were only 11 & 12- went around blocks alone- lord only knows what we said to the people at the door! I remember standing there PRETENDING to knock- those poor people at the door- lol. But, what if people had answered- if they asked anything other than the normal "would you like to read these- $0.15 cents a piece" line- I wouldn't have known what to say! But, really, alot of people go door to door alone, or send young people- there's alot of what ifs that could be scarey- wrong place, wrong time! I know when my mom brings a car full of people here I wouldn't mind locking them in the basement! LOL. Now, they don't "witness" to me- they just chit chat, use the bathroom- then SOMEBODY says one thing- like- heres the latest magazine, or the speaker tomorrow.......... Hey- anyone out there STILL getting the magazines in the mail?!?! I have since 1995 non stop- my mom keeps getting the slip & renewing them- I keep hearing they are going to end SOON- stop mailing altogether- but they STILL keep coming!

JWs Locked in Cellar
by Stephanus indoes anyone remember the news report about an old lady who was so fed up with the dubs coming to her door that she locked two of them up in her cellar?
the dubs were missing for some time before the other dubs who'd been in fs with them called the police who eventually found the ones in the cellar.. my question: shouldn't the dubs have gone to the elders instead of bringing the police into it?
that's how they handle other problems...

Double Standards
by Perfection Seeker indid anyone else have witness parents who the congregation thought were the "model" family, yet behind closed doors all hell broke loose?
i remember a time when my family was choosen to do a part at an assembly about the ideal family- yet behind the scenes, we were beat, yelled at, sworn at, never studied, had a family from hell, yet others always commented how "perfect" and christian our family was.
being a witness leaves deep & permanent scars.

Ha ha! I am HOPING I won't have a committee meeting :-) I like the one posting of someone in here- ways to spice up a JD hearing- made me laugh so hard I cried! They sure had me at my last one- I was a scared little girl! (27) I did exactly as told, said what I should, etc. Now, I am afraid I'd have to ask my husband to come just to shut me up! I do feel sorry for them- I think they will be judged more harshly for judging others. Don't you?

Kjell- Thanks for writing! My father was sick with cancer- I got QUICKLY reinstated- they cut corners cause my dad was sick & a servant- and my WHOLE family are witnesses- then I spent the last two years in contact with my dad- then he passed away. That was two years ago. Since then, I have been to probaby less than 10 meetings- of course I still didn't get priveledges back- so didn't do much. Everyone knows why I went back- and since my family are all witnesses- they sort of "tolerate" me. I am in their territory- so if they need bathrooms or drinks on a Saturday morning, or want to "encourage" me they stop by- so I think I am living on the edge so to speak. BUT, they have NO idea I HAPPILY go to church on Sunday mornings, or else I would be marked or dissed or something. My dad was a "normal" guy- not the usual witness stereo type- he kept my mom in line- was a decent servant- was a good guy. Now that he is gone- she goes OVERBOARD trying to save me & my husband "So we can see dad again- and be there when he wakes up" She just never stops- emails calls stopping by- she is the EXTREME witness, if you know what I mean! Just wondered if you as a "elder" had something to say to her to appeal to her witness side :-) It has been since WAY before 1995 that I faded out- so I don't even know how to appeal to her anymore- but did tell her the other day I liked being disfellowshipped before- cause I was out of her clutches. That shut her up- for a day :-) Now the poor lady is at the three day convention- do you remember the hours of brain dead you felt- and numb- or when you were in, were you in, and good? :-) Thanks for writing. You know, they say Apostacy is saying the truth isn't the truth- and they scare you from saying what you think but true apostacy as in the dictionary is to say there is no god. Thats not what we're saying here. We are only saying we want to serve GOD & not an organization. BEST WISHES! Melissa

What Would You Have Done?
by Dutchie inthere was a middle-aged woman in our kingdom hall who was a long time pioneer.
she was a very warm and loving woman and so when she announced her plans for a family vacation one year some of us got together and took up a little collection so that she would have some extra money to spend.
after all, she was working hard for jehovah and werent we supposed to show our appreciation?.

You are kidding, right? I don't know ANY christian that would have kept the money- whether a witness or not. That is such a crock! Jehovah provides- so he provides with someone elses hardship? Will he provide when she has to go to jail for stealing? What a crock. That is ridiculous. Also, what other organization would take up money for someone to VACATION with!? Heck- take up a collection for me- and I'll vacation too! What a crock

Fear, perhaps?
by bigboi inhave u ever noticed that ppl contemplating becoming dubs actually experience a good bit of fear in the process?
all the recent talk of disfellowshipping brought this to mind.
ok, i know that when anyone is thinking about making any kind of committment there is a little apprehensiveness and anxiety.

Just another example of double standards. If you get babtized, then more is expected & you are more "punishable" but if you're smart- and don't get babtized, then the sin isn't as bad, or something like that! Why would anyone get babtized? What are the benefits? More reprocussions than benefits. Like getting babtized is some mark of life or something. If I knew of ANYONE getting involved in the organization, I would do my best to talk them out of it- if they insisted- I'd say at least don't get babtized. Babtism ruins lives. I had a friend who never got babtized- grew up in "the truth" decided to leave when she was 16- smoked, did drugs, had sex, got piercings, tattoos- etc, but she had no "label" on her- so her parents still talked to her. I married a "worldy" guy- and maybe had sex once (LOL) before we got married- and I got dissed. Same sins, different labels. What a crock.

LYING EYES- I am SO grateful to read you put JESUS on your voting! I feel MUCH better. I cannot believe the torment Witness children go through. It makes me outraged to think of what they put their children through! Yet, they will be the FIRST to say how weird the David Koresh thing was, or other cults, or the Osama followers. What crock.

HI! Hey- as an elder- do you have any "inside tips" to help deal with witnesses family members who pressure you? :-) When I was disfellowshipped in 97- it was a HUGE relief not to be in their clutches. I got reinstated because my dad was sick- although I have "faded" now- still in their clutches with people stopping to "encourage" me out in service, my entire family preaching to me- and trying to save me, etc. BUT, as an elder- if you have key points to help them or shut them up- I'd love to hear them! Go have another beer- and *SMILE* :-)

HI everyone! My heart stopped when I read Iowans in here- I should be comforted, but at first I freaked out- still trying to "STALL" my disfellowshipping" lol. I am in the Cedar Rapids area. Anyone want to come with me to my Judicial hearings? LOL. Actually, I talked to my sister yesterday- she thinks I have faded away enough that only my mother will hassle me- and not the "brothers" I hope that is the case!
